Coronavirus

I’ve got no problem with people keeping a cool head, creating panic and hysteria is not going to help at all, but the statement of my government where they say kids are a very low risk group when it comes to infection is based on nothing.

They can only really say that for sure when they have tested all the kids and the test results show that there are barely any kids that have this virus.
No test have been done.
The only thing that is known is that kids don’t get any symptoms when they are infected.

I think in a case like this it’s better to err on the side of caution.

And of course, all the data and predictions are based off numbers of people that have been tested. Since the"vast majority" of people who get infected have mild to moderate symptoms, there are and will be many uncounted cases of this because who’s going to get tested if they ‘feel bad for a few days’?

And that is not making light of this. The response to this has been extremely overblown. China has already cut their mortality rate from 3.4% to 0.7% now that more data is known. China is also saying the epidemic peak has passed. Is that all true? I dunno. But still, we’re not looking at Black Plague days where bodies were stacked onto passing carts every day, and we’re not looking at the astonishing ~40% mortality rate of Ebola. I simply can’t comprehend the panic.

Na it actually is correct from what i saw on a video with a virologist and the stats say that people under 20 are largely unaffected and on the rare occasion that a child has tested pos it is very mild (there was a very young baby that tested positive and was ok after a couple of days). I cant place my finger on the video but if i find it again i will post it.

Dr. Osterholm mentions this in the interview with Rogan - Children don’t get infected, or show symptoms, just as with Hep A…

EDIT: They get infected, but are largely asymptomatic (unaffected). Some present with mild symptoms though.

Neither can I, that’s why I think testing is important.
That way you can get the actual number of people infected and the mortality rate clear.
The panic springs from the confusion of all these different reports.

I watched that video my dear, and I just went back to it to see if I misheard.
He says clearly that they are getting infected but show no symptoms just like with Hep A.
10:17 in the video.

Something I’ve not been able to find in all the reports and stories I’ve read is why this is happening now, instead of during one of the many recent virus scares. Frankly, I thought there was good reason for high concern when a couple Ebola cases got to the US a few years ago. That mortality rate really is the stuff of nightmares, but no one even blinked. And no one knows the actual impact of it because it wasn’t front page news for weeks. Why, now, is the world in a full blown panic? I’ve found no good explanation.

From what I’ve heard in the video @daath posted, it had to do with the way Ebola was spread.
It wasn’t spread through the air as corona is, so a lot harder to get.

As for the rest of your questions, I have no answer to that either. Usually they have some shit to hide from the rest of us.

But I also remember the video that was posted where the prime minister of Iran was sweating on tv and everyone there said it was a hoax.
They said he would just come back a week later completely recovered to show people that there was nothing to see here.
He’s dead.

Ebola spreads through direct contact (via broken skin or mucous membranes, in the nose, mouth, or eyes). Blood or body fluids from infected individuals are capable of causing infection in others. Examples of body fluids include urine, saliva, sweat, feces, vomit, breast milk, and semen.

Interestingly Ebola has an R0 of 2 (meaning 1 person will infect an average of 2), whereas COVID-19 has an estimated R0 of 2-2.5… (Common flu has an R0 of 1.7)

Ebola is contagious as soon as you present with symptoms, whereas COVID-19 is airborne, and you are infectious just hours after infection - long before you present with symptoms…

The reason for the aggressive measures taken by governments is to avoid overloading the healthcare system - When China peaked, doctors could hardly do anything (there are videos of doctors in China having breakdowns). In Italy they are overloaded now, and they have to decide which persons to save and which has to die. The idea is to spread the infection over a longer period so the healthcare professionals have a chance to do something.

The graph that has been shared so many times, actually visualizes it pretty well

This is my understanding as well. Children do well if infected. However, this does beg the question, are they carriers? They don’t show signs, they don’t get tested, so are they spreading it just the same? I would think so. This is obviously key to isolation and distancing tactics. The undetected channels of propagation. Michigan just closed schools for three weeks. This may be a good move, if the children don’t run around and distribute anyway. My wife will go nuts for sure. She gets loopy when she isn’t teaching. I will probably be in the same boat as the business I work in is flat lined right now and I am staying home a lot more. We can go psycho together.

OK, that’s reasonable. And I suppose the general panic is due to the fact that there will always be a percentage of the population that will become hysterical at the drop of a hat.

Enough of my tax dollars are wasted already. And airlines already charge too much for too little. In a word, “no”. Get your greedy hand away from my wallet.

Interestingly that same graph can be applied to a lot of stuff. Like people hoarding :stuck_out_tongue:

Denmark and Sweden will no longer count new infections. We will probably see numbers, but the real numbers will be even higher than when they were actually counting and trying to contain. The important numbers now, which we may be able to extrapolate from is the number of hospitalized people …

Oh crappers! Can I curse here? Shit-shit-shit, my employer just asked me and a few other drivers to self quarantine. I was asked to lock up the van and not use it and it’s my only form of transportation. The worse part is that it’s based on presumptive information. There is no actual proof that the supposed infected individual is positive for covid-19. They want to err on the side of caution. They want us to speak to our doctors and get further guidance They will take questions from our doctors. They will allow us back to work if our doctors clear us. I’m waiting for a return call right now from the clinic.

Personally, if I know those staff people well enough I’d say someone in that group home wanted 2 weeks off with sick pay. I can think of one person in particular who would pull a stunt like this.

Just remember that if infected through the course of
Work you may be able to file for workers compensation. Document everything.
Even goes as far to ask…should this be worker’s compensation.

If they say no you could later push for it. And say they inappropriately denied it.
