I read an article (not worth linking IMHO) that decided they knew what the ‘best case’ and ‘worst case’ scenarios are. I do not understand how they came up with them, but they were Captain Obvious to the max. Best case was a quick mutation into oblivion. Worst case was no cure/vaccine and a mutation to a superbug that wipes out half the world. And they cited “experts” as their sources.

Gee, thanks arseholes. I was wondering how this thing may play out. Appreciate the benchmark.

You can bash him to your hearts content

More people dying, number of people in critical condition rising steadily and still only 2 recoveries.
There were 45 critical on the 19th, 175 critical yesterday and today there are 354 in critical condition.
The majority of people hasn’t been tested as of yet.
A job well done :+1:

I’ve been watching those “recovery” numbers, and I don’t understand the metrics. And obviously, even the total numbers are still misleading because one, they are doing very limited testing of the total, and I have not seen any charts and graphs that are showing negative testing results. Way early in this thing still to get numbers I can really latch on to, especially since the vast majority of those being tested are feeling sick enough to seek hospital.

It’s the easiest one to understand actually. It’s the number of people recovered after hospitalisation.
The total numbers are a complete mystery.

Yes, and that’s my issue with it. Does not account for any positives that didn’t require hospitalization that I know of.

Hate to be sounding optimistic about it but peaking in two weeks is a positive, anyway. Hope it happens.

And being properly pessimistic again, it’s sad and astonishing that so far Italy accounts for 38% of the total confirmed Covid-19 deaths so far. That’s tough stuff, wow.

About 30 minutes ago Trump stated that as of now he has no plans for a nationwide quarantine, but he do supports states decisions to do just that. He says for his stance is that there are still several states that aren’t yet severely impacted and a nationwide quarantine would not be fair to those states. For now he’s leaving up to each to do what they feel is most important for themselves. He also feels that Americans are doing a great job with his 15 day guidelines and will revisit that after that time.

I know, I saw… just don’t be surprised when your state does a lockdown.

I’m actually hoping they do. Better to overdo it IMO.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
According to a recent study published in the New England Journal of Medicine, SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, can live in the air and on surfaces between several hours and several days. The study found that the virus is viable for up to 72 hours on plastics, 48 hours on stainless steel, 24 hours on cardboard, and 4 hours on copper. It is also detectable in the air for three hours. USE CAUTION AND TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY!

Now I want to ask a question of you folks… it’s a real question, and not a dismissive concept towards the pandemic. It’s a multi-part question…

First, do you think the world response has been overdone in even the slightest way?

Second, if you said no, do you support these extreme measures because of the general public health good, or specifically to minimize it for the at-risk category folks instead?

Because clearly, and it has been said in almost every article- the vast majority of the infected population will shrug this off. So that said, and in that context, it does seem to me as though everyone is going to extraordinary lengths to curb this minimally invasive pandemic (from a 100% of the world population perspective, all risk categories), when only a very small portion of the overall population will be severely affected (again, projections stating an eventual total mortality rate of ~1%, with high bias towards specific at-risk categories)?

Don’t take this as me being indifferent towards this, or downplaying it. I’m framing this from a whole-world perspective, and just looking for an honest opinion. I am personally not worried about it for myself or even my family, at all really. But I support and am happy to abide by all of this lockdown stuff if it can help protect the vulnerable, even if it is a very small percentage. Your thoughts? And don’t call me a ghoul, because I support these measures even if I am not feeling all that threatened by it. I just want to know what you all think about that.

I’d say here… I’d really like to see more being done myself.

I can’t pick between these two options because I feel equally about both.

Death is never a good thing IMO and if steps can be taken to reduce or eliminate that consequence then that’s good by me. I’m willing to make sacrifices if it’s for the good of all…

Second… I fall into the high risk category and I’m really afraid of getting this virus, because I don’t know if I could survive it.

I moved a ton of posts, including my own to the dedicated Trump-thread. I apologize for fueling the fire, but sometimes it’s hard :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: I should have just posted in that thread from the beginning, I guess.

Again, I hope we can stick to SARS-CoV-2 / COVID-19 stuff

If you feel I missed a few posts (there are so many) - please point them out to me.

Really should watch this vid… I sure hope he can fight it off…
There are more like him… that the hospitals would like to see back home.

Well not to be overly dramatic or sound artificial, but you are exactly who I am thinking about with this pandemic response, not me. I do believe that for the majority of the population, these measure are a bit over the top. But it is folks like you that warrant these containment measures, and I do believe it is our responsibility as humans to look out for each other, especially in times like these. Group hug!! No, wait…
