Coronavirus

You are right that the vast majority of people are only going to get mild symptoms if any at all. I’m not in a high risk category so I have nothing to fear myself … well wrong! Look at that video that Smoky posted. That’s not the first nor the last healthy person that ended up in ICU. I’ve also seen high risk people go through it as if a common cold is a lot worse so it looks like a toss of a coin what’ll happen when you do get it.

That small % of people, not just the people that die from it but all the ones ending up in ICU are putting a heavy burden on our healthcare systems globally. There aren’t enough doctors, nurses and beds available to deal with them and that doesn’t just have an impact on all the covid-19 people. All other illnesses haven’t stopped. People still get cancer, aids, heart attacks, strokes, diabetes, MS, malaria, dengue and whatever other diseases that have to be treated too.
The way this pandemic spreads and infects people is just as bad as the mortality rate and don’t be fooled, a small percentage of billions of people still means that millions of people are at risk of dying before their time.

The longer governments wait to stop this virus, the more it spreads, the more difficult and expensive (not just financially) it becomes to put a halt to it so yeah I’m with PV, more should be done. Not tomorrow, not today but yesterday.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re rich or poor, what you believe in or what part of the world you’ve been born in, viruses don’t discriminate so it’s in everybody’s interest to take it all serious, be responsible and do your thing to help and stop it all. The more we’re going to push our freedoms right now, the more we’re going to be restricted anyways and the longer the consequences will be.

I really hate losing my freedom. It’s one of the most valued things in my life, I’ve always rebelled against people who’ve tried restricting me in any way and I’ve always had issues with authority but in a case like this, and given the irresponsible actions of the average citizen (worldwide), governments aren’t doing enough IMO. I still don’t understand why there isn’t more police in the streets, why the army isn’t helping them and why people are still getting away with warnings. Nobody can be excused for not knowing because you just cannot escape the news.

What would ‘more’ entail to you?

**But don’t get me wrong. I’m not baiting or disagreeing. I’m just opening a dialogue.

Very noble action. I applaud you. I have slipped too out of frustration and let some shit fly that was unneeded and unwanted fluff that served no good purpose. I will also try to do better in the future.

I think we’re pretty good with the balance between restrictions and freedoms but it’s still citizens that don’t care about them. Our borders are closed for everything except essential traffic, only essential stores are open, group activities are banned, people have to stay within their local region and so on. But today was a sunny day, lots of people gathered in parks in groups and too close together, completely ignoring the new rules and police has to step in for irresponsible behavior. Go outside, exercise, get some fresh air, do your shopping but think about basic things like keeping distance and avoiding group activities.
When it comes to other countries… I see pubs still open, people packing a beach sitting against each other, crossing borders, in some places life still goes on as if nothing’s happening in the world. That needs to change if we don’t want to let things get worse.

Bam. That, to me, is the greatest problem. I’d surmise we wouldn’t need half the ‘official’ actions if people were more individually responsible.

My US State today issued social distancing mandates. No gatherings greater than 10 people. No eating in at restaurants, no going to bars. Carryout or delivery of food only, etc. In my mind, that should be simple common sense, not something the government needs to tell me to do.

Yesterday on the news they showed the olympic flame being carried around in Japan with a mass gathering (closely packed together) because this might just be their only chance to ever see it… oh please, is that what’s important right now? Very unlikely that the games will continue in any case.

In Italy, football clubs are organizing group trainings again, defying national rules but but but… sponsors demand they stay in shape!

It’s all a bit surreal to me.

Been to many of those places and I pray those businesses can survive this. Amazing food!!! Only had one disappointment, folks that met me in Budapest on the way to Kazakhstan went and grabbed lunch at Burger King. Really? Yup, lol.

We have been doing this since Monday… and yet another 3 or more weeks to go, from what I hear from people in the medical areas.

You and me both… I think I am going to turn my porch into my vape and music scene… My neighbors know not to come close… and they too grab instruments and play in their yards with me in mine… might even fire up my grill tomorrow. I am in the mood for a really good burger… I have ground sausage haha!!

No. I think it’s underdone.

I support those measures for the general public health good.
At this stage there is no cure/vaccine.
We don’t know enough about the virus and it’s behaviour in the future, mutation etc.

It spreads so rapidly that our Heath Systems may not cope

& more of those who would apparently be less affected by the virus will be put at risk of getting sick.

I am not in a high risk group either and living in the country I don’t feel it is a major problem for me. But it’s not about me, it’s about everyone else.

I think, we, the world, doesn’t know jack shit. I think the ones that know the most are the health care professionals that are telling us they don’t know jack shit yet. I don’t buy into the train of thought that we should be ready for anything that happens. There are endless scenarios that we are not ready for. They serve as blueprints for possible approaches if the need arises. Per my life’s learning, this outbreak will not teach us everything we need to know about future outbreaks, it will add experiences that can be evaluated, modified, excluded, or repeated. I think we have embarked in a direction that will continue unless something seriously goes south or if the outbreak overwhelms all of our efforts and takes it’s natural course regardless of our efforts. I think there will be plenty of opinions at the diminish of this outbreak about how things could have been done differently but most of those opinions will be untested and though worth consideration, not conclusive. I think monetary considerations will be tested also and that impact can be scrutinized also after this episode has diminished.

Hows that for not knowing jack shit?

The problem is those school kids coming home to infect parents with lung, heart or diabetes issues or in my case my 70 year old mom who lives with us because she can’t live on her own …it’s a bad idea. its about who those kids can harm if they are exposed and bring it home. My kids won’t be going back regardless but Bama is talking about out until September. We’ll do online school if they allow them back in. Losing my mother over this isn’t something I’m willing to accept and I think it’s a BAD move.

Italy did a study where they tested everyone in the town of about 3,800 people (Vo Italy?) The testing helped almost totally curb the spread in that city, but the interesting part was discovering that 8 people in the town tested positive with no symptoms. It’s not a high percentage, but link that with a slow incubation period and the numbers of folks getting just a slight “cold” and it’s clearer this is a stealthy pathogen easily spread without much warning, surely reflected in the exponential numbers seen woldwide. …and a reason why everyone needs to follow Social Distance recommendations. It’s a scientific fact now that you could feel perfectly fine but still be shedding virus. This was from this morning’s News …Google Vo Italy Study. I’d supply a link but I’m brewing Hand Sanitizer right now. “Hand Sanitizer” sounds so much better than “Granny’s Rheumatiz Medicine” …now I feel like I gotta supply another link

Good share. Excellent confirmation. The next thing I’m hoping to hear is an understanding of under what conditions aerosol contamination can occur if in effect it can. That is a missing link in my mind.

South Australia will temporarily close its borders to all visitors to slow the spread of coronavirus.

It is the third state to do so, after the Northern Territory and Tasmania both suspended travellers from arriving.

Police have been conducting random home checks to ensure those in isolation are staying where they say they will be.

The new measures will take effect from 4pm on Tuesday and will not impact the state’s essential services, including the supply of food.

Edit - add details:

The State Government will establish 12 border crossings where travellers will be required to sign a declaration about their health and ability to undertake mandatory self-isolation for two weeks.

Mr Marshall assured people who lived in border communities they would still be allowed to cross into South Australia as long as there were no coronavirus outbreaks in those towns.

Interesting to see the first hand accounts rolling in on reddit from people actually infected, most seem incredibly nonchalant. Like, ‘hey guys, got the pina colada disease, probly gonna die, what brand nic patches should I get’?
