ELR Mixing Contest II (LIVE)

There has been some talk on the live streams that the Recipe Contest requires a 5 day steep time entered in the calculator, this is NOT true. Enter the actual steep time but keep in mind that due to time restraints we may only be able to test at 5 day steep. Obviously the sooner the recipe is submitted it may make it to the finalist list and be retested at a longer steep :ok_hand:

Yeah for sure. Lots of recipes benefit and improve with a steep. All I’m saying is after a day or two you can really gauge and understand where it’s heading. I’m just impatient lol. I do properly steep my favourite recipes

It’s the conversion or most flavors being synthetic. Alcohol flavors take time to steep off alcohol.

How am I able to view this recipe if it’s private? Which leads to my next question how do we submit our recipe To one of the three judges while keeping it private?

Was it Flavorah’s Rock & Road that you used in your recipe @McDuckie?

I’ve recently picked this flavour up and really disappointed with the SFT after 3 days steeping… I’m getting strong perfume like off notes akin to incense sticks! I really hope it improves in time like your recipe did!

I disagree, however, I do believe you should be able to tell if a recipe is well put together off the shake, or if it’ll be good. In my opinion there are many flavors that benefit from a steep. That’s just me though.

No that recipe was from 2020 it was a scratch made Rocky road Ice Cream. Flavorah’s Rock and Road is a recent release.

Thanks - heres hoping the off notes steep out for me… I purchased it on the back of some favourable comments/reviews, hence my surprise with it not tasting so good upon testing.

What pct did you test it at?

I did it at 2%. Might try it at 1% next… Annoyingly, I can tell there’s a decent/authentic dark chocolate ice cream note in there, but the perfume off note is dominant right now.

Take it downt to 1pct…I get that everyine taste different things but this flavor was absolutley wonderful at 1pct.

Great - thanks for the tip - I’ll dial it down to 1% in the re-test.

I kinda get that a little with all the flv dessert bakery flavors. I think it may be the ethyl alcohol base they use that im slightly sensitive to

Eh, I may have settled on something. Now I’m testing pcts.

@STR8V8PING off topic but I’ve been meaning to tell you that all I needed to do with your Vanilla Tootsie Roll was lower the Sweet Rice a tad. For me, that was the only flavor I tasted but dayum, it’s a good one! It prompted me to work on a Brazilian Rice Pudding. I’m very happy with that flavor.

Why can’t I leave well enough alone?!?! I can’t stop tinkering with this recipe, I need serious intervention!

I don’t know what’s worse, too much tinkering or making too many other recipes because you can’t make up your mind? I once knew an artist but she lacked confidence and couldn’t see her own talent. As a consequence, she would keep erasing and redrawing over the same sketch until it became a smudgy looking mess! Does that help? In my opinion, you’re a talented mixer so I’m sure whatever it is you’re making, it’s great :+1:
