Ya’ll do understand that VapeCrafter does the very same thing really, right?
Click the Blue Wrench on your recipe and click on that very last menu item "Order this at VapeCrafter’
You can get the ejuice made for you, or just order the ‘base’’ from them.
And that is done on direct from this site … you’re defending rogue sites doing as they please with your recipe, just because it happens to be up top by numbers, not being funny … but there’s nothing flattering about it. Can’t believe how little some feel about their pride and joys tbh
Nope. Had no idea. (Is my newbness showing about putting up recipes yet?? lol)
Knowing that it’s incorporated into a button here though automatically says that ELR is not only aware, but involved in it! And I’d hope, seeing some benefit from it (which is what I was hoping for above with the ‘recipe checkout links’ thingy. (Close enough)
It’s still different to me though, because ELR isn’t involved in any way (members or site) yet both are being blatantly exploited for commercial profit.
Glad daath said his peace though, so the rest will fall where it may!
THAT is the main reason I brought VapeCrafters up in this thread.
I believe ELR does get benefit from them and I do hope people in the U.S. and Canada
that need this type of service would use VapeCrafters before using something else.
Ya know… it might also be a nice way for folks to test recipes BEFORE going to the expense of buying all the flavorings needed to build a recipe, only to find they don’t care for it (or at least, a particular aspect of it)!! Assuming you pick out several at one time to make shipping worthwhile!
That’s a superb idea for someone that’s literally brand new to mixing, and should be suggested when we see these “what flavors should I buy first” threads!! =D (In addition to the usual link barrage) lol
EDIT: This also kills two birds with one stone if we also add “don’t forget to buy VG, PG, and nic to have on hand to mix that base with!” At which point they have the basics in hand to start their mixing journey, and have also supported ELR in the process! Win-win! fekking auto-correct
Recipe packs and one-shots definitely have their place for a lot of DIY mixers… who want to mix nice liquids but don’t necessarily have the inclination to sit with a bank of flavours and create something original… or can be bothered to buy all the varied ingredients for a recipe.
I help run a facebook group for DIY’ers and I would say the ratio of genuine creator-mixers to one-shot buyers is about 1 to 100. Our group even has it’s own one-shots produced to facilitate the process for these people. I should add that these are produced, labelled and bottled for pretty much cost price by a vendor who believes in what our group is doing and it’s his way of being involved. There’s nothing made on these recipes either by the groups admin team…who are all recipe creators.
Hell, I’ll even buy one shots to try an original recipe before buying all the concs I need to mix it from scratch with some personal tweaks.
I’m rambling now…but what I’m trying to get to is that I can either choose to be annoyed by this sort of stuff…or I can just roll with it and accept it’s inevitable… and take from it a little satisfaction that at least the recipe was good enough to be used elsewhere.
Going with the flow is definitely better for my mood and my blood pressure
It’s the easiest way yeah, but I still think it’s lousey what they’re doing. They should give proper, official credit, and some kind of gesture, like a litre of the concentrate to the creators for each mix they advertise. At the very least.
The American Dream
Let me tell a story about my car
I have a 2002 car and the transmission started slipping many years ago, I called 2 transmission shops and they quoted me $4000 and $3995 for a new ECM computer for the car and a transmission rebuild. Needless to say I parked the car and bought a 1998 klunker for $1000. That car wore out over a couple 3 years and I bought another newer 2004 car for also about $1000. I decided to change the ECM computer in my old 2002 car and called around and got prices for the part. I got prices ranging from $379-$1700 for a new rebuilt ECM. I tried to buy the $379 ECM and found it was out of stock and nothing I could do. So I went to Google and found Ebay had several for $135-$500 and one of those sellers also had a deal where I could send my ECM and have it rebuilt for $79 so I jumped on it. The entire deal cost $89 with shipping, the company rebuilt my ECM in less than a day and had it back to me in less than a week. I Installed the rebuilt ECM in about 15 minutes and the car is now running fine.
Unfortunately if I had paid the original 4000 quote, I would be just like those folks going onto that site and paying $45 for $7 worth of ingredients. Unfortunately for those who go there, they don’t get the benefit of having friends like @Kreed and @BoDarc and everyone else to quiz where to buy their other supplies, how to use them, and get tips and tricks. I truly feel lucky to have the help from the community here at ELR, but how come no one told me about Ebay 5 years ago when my “transmission” went out?
As a guy with a few patent, some classified, I’ll say and I’m not defending the site, if you put something up publicly…that is what it is PUBLIC. You want to keep your intellectual property? Then keep it to yourself.
You put something up publicly, don’t protect it with copyright or other legal means, it’s shame on you time. That’s the bottom line folks. Welcome to reality.
I have had protected IP stolen and I’ve had unprotected IP that I personally developed taken by my superiors and multiple companies started from the work. Yeah, it feels bad, wish I’d have been more careful, I could have retired already. Shame on ME.
Here in Oz we can struggle a bit with concentrate supplies. One vendor will be out of stock with two flavours you need. So you try another site and he will be short on a different flavour you need for this amazing recipe you have to try.
Old mate at Sydney Vapour has had a good idea. I haven’t bought one of his packs but I have bought concentrates from him. Gives prompt service.
The thing is, we all know where the recipes are from. What you guys are saying is lazy, with the screenshots, i would call open. They are elr recipes and it’s no secret.
Good to see the pricing comments though. Thats what we have to pay for small bottles. Overseas orders are common but postage can kill it for us.
I think there are valid points on both sides of the argument, He isn’t hiding where the recipes are from in some cases or who made them, but it’s not all of them, If he took @BoDarc’s chocolate eclair recipe, changed one ingredient and never mentioned his name in the listing I think that’s a bit low, and for ‘Unicorn Milk’ there is no mention of anyone, there’s no consistency with it, I think the term ‘credit where credit’s due’ is never more true than in the world of mixing (I actually thought @Alisa got a mention on there for Bust-A-Nut but appears to not be the case either) but then on the flip side of that you are actually selling on the back of someones notoriety without they’re consent, I don’t think it would of hurt to PM the mixers involved beforehand and say “Hey, I’ve got this idea to help out some people who struggle to get the ingredients for your amazing recipe so they can mix it, would you be Ok if I put mix packs together and credit your name on the website as the Mixer?” …I don’t think most mixers would mind too much, it’s just common courtesy, what he’s done isn’t illegal, it’s just a bit underhand, just my opinion.
Good points for sure. And the thing is, i know where all his recipes are from but another potential buyer may just think "Wow. This guy is good"
I have seen a new recipe on his site before, wondered how I missed that over here, found it, adapted it, made it and loved it.
This mixing caper is a fantastic thing for all of us but it’s only through the work of talented people, with amazing olfactory senses, that i always have enjoyable juices.
I’ll flip him an email and see if he can look at acknowledging original creators.
Yeah, I totally understand your argument. I think you get mine too. We aren’t just public under US rules either. Patent and copyright protection do not cover you across the world. Hell even valid patents in China give you the same legal protections there as a suppository…you won’t find me on any social media that isn’t mandatory for my career and you never will for these reasons. I’m fairly protective of my identity even here, although many here know me. . .but THIS place contains awesome people and is worth the “risk” to me.
I’m not saying it’s not a crappy state of affairs. I’m just saying those are your options. And it was that way before the Internet could allow a kiwi, a brit, a bunch of merkins and Ozzies, and others to post their thoughts for any bot to come strip and turn into a word cloud or worse by any person or govermental employee in the world. People used to fear this; Facebook made it normal.
My buddy, admittedly creepy, sent me some photos of girls in bikinis at the beach yesterday. Not illegal here at least, but very creepy IMO. To protect a recipe across the laws and rules of the entire world…don’t even put it on a site. That’s your option, and don’t go out of your fenced yard in a bikini either.
Why don’t you let us be the judges of that, lol? Just remember to get a good tuck going on, cause I don’t want to see balls or anything, haha. Pretty up your hair, a little makeup, maybe a fisheye lens. Photoshop can also do wonders. I shall go no further.
