Well then, unique offer for sure. I’m thinking that would have been my last visit.
The pod idea is brilliant. I’m not crazy about going through and disposing batteries every week. I’ll give them a try. I was told I can swap if I don’t like them. I have a military disability and the VA seems on the ball in this area.
Thanks
I lost most of my hearing in the military too playing bang, bang, shoot em up. My audiologist mentioned the VA route but by the time my insurance kicked in and he made me a “beta tester” I did fine without involving the gooberment. The only thing I can advise is be prepared for acclamation period. Took me awhile to even figure out what I was hearing.
I’ve thought of getting dummy ones so I have the excuse of blaming the device when I actually just want to ignore people. Decided against it because we all know what Karma can be.
Thats funny!
Idk, remember that Twilight episode where the guy could hear everyone’s thoughts. He was constantly being barraged by noise. I think there are things you shouldn’t be hearing, lol.
After watching this at least 50 times over the last 35 years, it still makes me laugh.
@anon36682625 Do you heat up the PG and VG together ??? I was just thinking about this because ive only heated the VG then i add the PG and flavors …My mixing room is pretty cold so the PG isnt even at a normal room temp . I think I should be warming my VG and PG together is this ok ???
@natbone I have used the battery type HA’s for many years, and have now changed to the charger pod type, which is a winner, much better.
Sorry for derailing the thread
I have always advised mixing flavor materials, PG, and VG together in a closed container and heating to 140F/60C. I never heat nic. Indeed, the GC was designed for mixing in Boston Round glass bottles for convenience. Flasks with stoppers work equally well for larger volumes. I seldom use beakers because they are hard to cover because of the pour lip on most. I have a very high tech jelly jar with lid I use also.
The method of heating VG separately I think came from Walt’s use of a sous vide water bath where it will not accommodate small glass bottles due to a minimum water depth required by that device e.g the bottles would be submerged. Walt and I “talked” about this somewhere in a thread. I have a similar device and made racks to elevate my bottles where the cap is above the water line. It works very well.
I did control testing at 10 degree Fahrenheit increments. Several people are heating to 50C/122F rather than 60C which will work. However, I detect a noticeable difference somewhere in the mid to high 130’s and believe that if you bring everything to 140 optimum mixing will occur.
I should start a thread on this. @Dan_the_Man wrote recently about this elsewhere where he puts everything but nic in his bottles and has heated far beyond 140 with no detectable adverse effect.
Being the ever curious type, I recently picked up a ‘medium’ sized crock pot. (Not one of the bitsy tiny ones that you could only heat a little can of beans in. But not one of the full size ones that will easily fit a 5lb roast either.) Cheaper by going to the thrift shop (for a crock pot) than getting a Sous-Vide (though I’d love to have one). Problem is, from the reviews on Amazon, the only Sous-Vides that I thought would be worth the money were at least $200.
I still need to find a suitable container to immerse the VG in though. As well as get my variac over here… I figured it would be easier to just set it on “high”, and drop a thermometer in, and adjust the variac to yield the exact desired temp.
“Po’ folks” Sous-Vide, but without the water circulation.
This one is a fine unit. I can vouch for it personally…
I went to add it to my Amazon shopping list, and found I’d already saved it previously. lol
While the overall feedback (in stars) is/was highly positive (usually a good sign in itself) I remained cautious (without any further trusted point of reference) because of the top review:
The first part didn’t bother me as much as the latter.
Not being sure (without hands-on) of whether or not this was a ‘critically important’ factor or not, I did go ahead and favorite it, but decided to pursue my ‘Po’ folks’ method first.
I figure if it doesn’t work how I’d like, I’m only out $6.
I definitely appreciate the recommendation though. You’re a far more trusted source than some random Amazon review!!
If the other way ends up not working, this will almost certainly be the unit I go for (once I have funds again). Maybe I’ll get doubly lucky, and it’ll be on sale for $30 off then too! (lol yeah right)
At any rate, thank you for the recommendation!
Side question:
What container do you use yours with?
Dimensions suggested?
You are very welcome! The container depends on what I am doing with it. I cook a lot of meats and for that I’m guessing I use something about 10 to 12 inches in diameter and maybe 8 to 9 inches deep. For heating VG the container is about 6 inches in diameter and maybe 7 inches deep. Obviously it will be a little slower that the 1000W unit being 750W but the big deal is that once up to temp it stays there.
Awesome.
TY again sir!
Ok…Ill give it a whirl ty…
I use parafilm to cover tops its very thivk and wraps edges like saran wrap

Wow look at you guys all fancy and stuff. And here I go and use a microwave. What do you think my issue is? My problem? I thought I’d ask you all because nobody around here knows. Just joking except for the part where I use a microwave LOL
I have a pit/boxer and a pit/husky mix. Both 6/7 months old. They are horses and have come close to knocking me down when I take them out at the same time
12 year old black lab that spazzes out everytime she wakes up. I was stepping over her and she woke up and made me slam my pinky toe into the sofa leg. Broke it of course (my toe not the sofa leg). Looked like I was giving a thumbs up with my foot.
