This is all interesting as it seems like the direction I would need to go takes me farther away from the cover art of the juice.
I will try a version of it with the Mangosteen in place of the DF just for myself as I could see it being good. But definitely brighter than all the priors, maybe along the lines of the FA DF.
IMO, FA DF would be the middle road between INW DF and FA Mangosteen.
Yeah the dragonfruit flavour im getting from purilums is pretty close too so i think if the mangosteen would change that too much i would say we are probably on the right track with dragonfruit or df+jf ? You never know. Just dialing back the “dark” fruits might be enough just to bring out that “brightness/bite” i was referring too? I can only test with purilum df for the time being though, the last few drops of tfa went in one of my last recipes. So while you lot test those dragonfruit combos ill mess around with the blackcurrant/forest/grape combos until i order what i need.
I’m going to, in the morning do what you suggested and mix the base , split it in 2 and try different amounts and flavour combos of “dragon” and “jackfruit”. Already got 4 (including original) bottles of juice labelled “Black vine”. The more the merrier.
I’m exactly the same . I think we must be perfectionist.
Always used to get “could do better” at school. Yes, if I’m interested in something I’ll put everything into it…
yeah, The FA DF might just be it then. It does those things to me for the juice, but I think the Mangosteen will as well. But it kinda makes more sense that he just tried another DF and FA is a shoe in, and not using Jackfruit being another flavor to the mix makes sense as well. But it goes without saying this is all speculation on my part.
FlavourArt Dragon fruit - It’s a fruity sweet kind of thing, in the least exact way possible, some of the lack of definition is undoubtedly because of the off notes. This is decidedly real fruit and not a candied offering, but there is a pervasive floral undercurrent that sort of drags the whole experience down just a bit. It’s that same floral weirdness that bends so many honey flavors into a near unusable direction, but toned down significantly. I don’t see being able to bury that without burying the bulk of the actual flavor though. It is juicy, not quite bordering on “wet” and I could see using it in the correct context for that aspect more than anything else.
I agree with a lot of this but the floral was contained enough to me in the mix I did, but it was used low and pounded with a lot of other stuff.
Funny his Purilum DF notes sound like Jackfruit. This confirms @RicklePick-Eddie1z
An exact, public release date for FlavourArt’s individual Dragon Fruit concentrate does not exist, as flavor manufacturing companies do not launch standalone mixing concentrates with the synchronized public relations campaigns or hard release dates typical of consumer tech or entertainment products.
Instead, it was quietly rolled out directly to B2B wholesalers and DIY flavoring suppliers as part of an catalog expansion prior to 2018. Public tracking and community reviews for the flavor on major DIY databases date back multiple years.
Actually never saw that flvrs place before, i’ll have a proper look what they have later on.
Kingflavours in uk also have fa dragonfruit under chefs old flavour creative name, i can actually grab some of that when i restock my DV raspberry so that works out nice.
& nice find on the DF notes, gonna read through that now.
Edit - yeah i think i am getting some jackfruit especially when smelling the concentrate & knuckle testing the eliquid. Purilums DF having those juicy fruit vibes is whats making it so similar i think? its just not as bright as whats in the black vine. But whats difficult is being able to tell if it is actually jackfruit, or is it just dragonfruit higher than what we’re usually used to?
You will find the (purilum) “Df” review interesting. He says it’s bubblegum like which is exactly what “jackfruit” tastes like. I understand why you thought “jf”.
It could still be though.
We’re on the right track
I’m so transfixed with this thread, watching the back and fourths and how you guy’s work and disect, learning a lot from this interaction, it’s fantastic.
I’m so glad this is now being experienced and recognised, many initially treated this like some run of mill commercial liquid with a commercial brain, which is understandable because it seems to make up 99% of what’s out there. I understand that jay is a designer and a musician, this is someone who is a talented and creative person and I think he’s definitely approached DIY in the same way. Black Vine is not a one hit wonder either, plenty more hits in his repertoire!
I know you guys are working hard on solving for the exotic tropical side of black vine but I wanted to know your opinion on the dark berry side of things, aside from the blackcurrant and Forest Fruits, do we think there could be some other blackberry/boysenberry/blueberry running along side of it?
Yeah im not sure tfa DF alone would do it either, i have only ever used tfa as an enhancer, never enough to actually taste it but i could see it working with jackfruit?
Both the INW & FA DF are sounding like they could fit too though but i have never even tried those variants myself.
Yes, I combined everyone’s ideas into the v1 I mixed. Everyons ideas are really helpful. It’s so close. @NIL8URBUDZ 's recipe is really good it tastes like the picture. I’m working on the “df” and “jf” combos in the morning and “Ricklepick” is concentrating on the main fruit blend… Try and get it a little closer. We’re close though. I have to sign of for the night. Have a good night everyone.
From the little time iv had with it so far i would say i dont think there is tbh? i think the dark fruit part is built up of forest fruit, concord grape & one of/combination of fa/cap blackcurrants? I just think the ratios are slightly skewed in comparison?
Next batches i make are going to focus primarily on the dark fruit part until i get the dragonfruits & jackfruit (also thrown a lot more in the cart just to rule out really). I also think the blackcurrant could be achieved with just one of those blackcurrants alone, just pushed a little higher? I probably wont get to mixing until 2morrow now (heats killed here me today) but ill be making a few batches up tomorrow to try.
