I’d buy that for a dollar!
Tonight’s movie will be Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula.
I chose this adaptation as it has a number of special characteristics which set it apart from the others. Obviously Keanu’s accent not being one of the positive ones. It shines as Coppola was obsessed with trying to do everything in camera. So, optical and digital effects are almost entirely absent and it instead relies on traditional methods which give it a timeless character.
Here’s a short and long behind the scenes for those who are intrigued by such things.
I’m getting ready to start season 3 (the final one) and am thrilled that they brought Dr. Crusher back, as well as some others from TNG.
Well crap, i was just going to say forget and not finish it but Dr. Crusher? Im in…
I just finished Season 2 of LaBrea, if this is the future of entertainment… I mean its like none of these actors/writers have ever had a personal face to face relationship, the non verbals communication is almost non existent as most of them just have the blankest looks on their faces as they speak to one another. The complete lack of logic in any way is maddening made worse because none of them are equipped emotionally to play their roles so they all just seem like they are spazzing out in any scene where logic would be required. And yet another show made by the headphone generation that i have to turn up and turn every 12 seconds…
I gave it my minimum two episodes chance for Season 1 before checking out.
I do hear that this third season is getting good reviews as a nostalgia fuelled last hurrah. Sadly, due to one key plot detail, I know I am not watching Picard, so I have no investment in trying again.
Well, as I have watched two parts of the Paul Verhoeven satirical action trilogy in this month of remakes, sequels, and readaptations - I have to watch the the final part: Starship Troopers.
Again, this is another movie critics attacked when it was released, mostly as they couldn’t spot that this film was a satire on the dangers of Fascism from a man who grew up under Nazi occupation.
A movie where the media constantly promotes one angle to all events and the characters are all young and beautiful, with the only visible disabilities being those earnt in military service in order to become a citizen.
Frankly, it shows how much action needs another like Verhoeven to create satirical action for another generation.
The Drinker’s reflection covers my own views at length:
I even have a few bunkers, Cadian squads and Tyranid hordes for whenever someone wants an Outpost 29 themed game of 40K.
Edit: I forgot to include Rowan J. Coleman’s retrospective (if you love sci-fi, then subbing to his channel is a must - he has a deep love of science fiction and cinema):
One of my favorite Sci-Fi action movies and I agree, it was not taken as intended by most critics and the general public. Thankfully the cult followers knew what they were dealing with.
I must admit that the failure to spot it was satire still baffles me.
I do need to sit down and watch the TV series and all the animated movies at some point. The two live action sequels are rather weak and can be skipped, though Hero of the Federation does manage to create a claustrophobic tale on a tight budget:
A disturbed babysitter experiences a sexual awakening while using LSD to treat a seemingly sick child from a family with dark secrets.
If you enjoy Wacked out Thriller/Horror movies.
This one ticks all the boxes.
This one also gets my thumbs up as a recent refreshing gem.
For the penultimate night of a themed February, it will be watching 12 Monkeys.
Although I do prefer Brazil and Time Bandits as demented examples of Terry Gilliam’s creativity, 12 Monkey’s is the only one which is a remake and also has a sub-par TV adaptation which should be avoided.
For those who have never seen it, it is a time-travel tale from the madman with was the animator of The Pythons. So, you can expect a focus on the absurd and a heavy reliance on visual storytelling.
The Hamster factory: a feature length documentary for those with a love of the process of filmmaking.
I just finished episode 8 of season 5 Yellowstone. Man o man I love that show, but leaving me hanging in the middle of the season like that…damn you Taylor! Anyone else watching it?
Now go watch 1923!! Good show too
Oh yea! I completely forgot about that, thanks for reminding me!
I loved 1923
1883 is excellent as well
