Happy Birthday @TimWV Eh, you’re probably sleeping by now
Happy Birthday Tim
Bonsai farming or do you have giant hands?
I didn’t know where to post this but it did make me smile so here it is, Okra Bloom on one of my plants this morning.
I’ve got an XPS 9720 17" and love it. The 4k screen is incredible, but the fan runs a bit more than I would like. The performance is great but I really bought it for the display.
That’s a great picture, beautiful. I have never known anyone that grew Okra.
Yes, that is a great picture.
@Mark_Turner This is my first year growing Okra. I love okra fixed so many ways. I saw some okra plants at the Farmers Market so I bought 5 plants and gave it a try. I have harvested several batches already, it’s actually an easy plant to grow however, aphids and other pests love them as well so keeping them away safely is a challenge.
My local Indian restaurant makes a lovely side dish of okra curry or ladies fingers as it is also known.
Apparently the flowers, seeds and leaves are also edible.
@Lucas_James_Holden There are so many ways of preparing okra and to me they’re all delicious. I take the seeds out of the pods that have gotten to big to eat and roast them and eat them as a snack, they’re also great added to soups and stews which help add body/thicker viscosity. the young pods I like cooked with corn, tomatoes, and roasted green chilis. It’s also hard to beat good fried okra, I also like using the unopened flower pods in a way similar to squash blossoms (stuffed, fried, chopped in salads, etc.) and of course it’s a must in gumbo!
I make an essential oil pest repellant for plants using 4 to 5 drops of each: peppermint, clove, rosemary and thyme, and mix with water, a squirt of dawn dish soap and about 1/4 cup vodka or vinegar in a medium sized spray bottle. Spray on affected plants to target adult aphids, as well as aphid larvae and eggs.
I spray it on my tomato, cilantro, parsley and basil plants every few days and bugs be gone!
@KC111 Thank you for this! I’ve been looking for a natural way to get rid of my garden pests, I will definitely give this a try, I really don’t want to introduce chemicals to my vegetables!
There are good to excellent quality brands out there made for skin and then there are poor quality that I wouldn’t even use for diffusing, lol, but here is a good quality one that has reasonable prices and they can last up to about 5 years. BTW, you want Clove BUD over Clove Leaf. I would also choose WHITE Thyme essential oil over Red Thyme.
