I think the restriction in airflow is what makes the Elder Dragon shine. I have only used mesh in the profile.
I wick the Kylin M the same way I wick the profile, fyi.
Thanks for your input, I’m using the same method for both, too. Found a video where they recommend cutting the bottom half out rather than gibing it a hair cut. So after pulling the cotton through I fluff it up a little bit and then push the scissors though the cotton as close as possiblle to the mesh and cut the bottom half of the cotton out. The advantage is that there isn’t too much cotton but the fibres from top of the mesh reach all the way down into the juice well. Simple and quick, seems to be workinbg perfectly.
That’s the method I use except I use rayon instead of cotton.
Why rayon? That’s cellulose fibers, right? Next time I buy wicking material I want to try hemp fibers, too.
Cheaper to buy and break in is basically nothing. And juices just taste better in my opinion. It lasts longer too. I had the same piece of rayon in my kylin m for almost 3 months.
I love the Kylin M RTA, haven’t used the Profile Unity RTA in awhile, not that it is bad but the Kylin is better. As far as the Profile RDA vs the Kylin M I might agree, use my Profile RDA everyday but if I had to choose the Kylin M would be hard to give up.
As far as the new Profile 1.5 RDA (which I will eventually write a review on) I feel it is more of a sideways move instead of an upgrade over the original. I would not replace my original with the 1.5 even though it has an improvement of a stiffer spring it doesn’t wow me.
Thanks for that, I was thinking about getting a 1.5. I think if you want to improve on the profile you’ll need wider mesh for bigger surface area.
It does use a little bit of a wider mesh but not enough IMO to compensate for the bigger build area. The original Profile can be bettered by replacing the spring with a stiffer one, that would negate the main benefit of the 1.5.
If I didn’t already have the original and couldn’t find one than I would buy the 1.5. There very close but not close enough to warrant buying the 1.5 to replace the original from what I have experienced thus far.
I used my 1.5 for about a week then shelved it. Didn’t hate it, but it wasn’t near as satisfying. Too much air for my taste.
Yeah the ceramic block is usually maxed out on most peoples profiles anyways. It’s been my opinion that those 6mm Wotofo cotton laces are way too much. I just free hand it using CBV2 with much less cotton. Results improved immediately.
As for the OP, I used to love RDTAs. I haven’t used any in a long time though because I got several squonk mods. I refuse to drip ejuice. I don’t believe dripping gives you better flavor either. If your coil is wicked properly, squonking is just as effective as dripping ejuice. I don’t put much stock in being able to “paint the coils”.
I missed out on that one, thankfully. The combo squonk is the one I have. Prepare to crank that airflow down for flavor. 1 slot half open. She’s a warm one, I can tell ya that, with dual 316SS coils, at .41, 55 watts. The Dota rdta, non squonk is cheap as hell, and never wick it according to the crap directions. No wonder that one wasn’t a winner for Kanger, and it should have been. The rdta version of the subtank. It’s that good.
Has anybody tried one of these vertical mesh rdas like the ceto or the iris? Looks like you can have much bigger mesh surface.
We talked about it a bit a couple years ago…
Yeah looks like I’m 2 years behind the whole mesh thing anyway. I’ll have to dive in a bit deeper though, the Kylin m beats all my converntional coil tanks in flavour and it works so well, no leaking, totally idiot proof to build. The profile is as easy to build but it’s not quite as good as the Kylin m.
RDAs for normal coils were a bit of a disappintment for me, never got the spit back under control so I’ve given up on them until I’ve tried the profile.
Thanks for letting us know. I don’t have it, and thanks to that fact bomb, I won’t bother. There are some sweet ones out there. Honestly, Ijoy’s rdta boxes are the excellent, and yes, I had to go thru and repair a few, more silicone to seal. Now, the Smok skyhook was NOT as good and also had issues…so, meh to that.
How about both? And this little gem is really the first tank to offer mtl/dl without compromising either/or. Many have tried but Vapefly came up with a great design.
I used to think an RTA with a BF pin was silly or redundant, but actually it’s not a bad thing to be able to see how much juice is in the well. My wife still struggles with overfilling (not under-filling anymore now that she’s gotten used to TC), and if she had a visual reference it would help keep her from wetting the mod. But, trying to convince her to give up the Elder Dragon would not be easy…
Well, it can be easy to over squonk the ED. I’ve done it. That problem goes away with a BF RDTA. I’ve used them in the past. A friend of mine started drilling holes in the hollow 510 pns of his regular RDTAs back when RDTAs hit the market. Not all had hollow pins that could accommodate this procedure but I thought his idea was ingenious. He’s a squonk nut, lol. Soon after, the industry started producing this idea. Remember the Nixon RDTA?
<img Wotofo introduced the Serpent RDTA with BF pin a few years ago.
Also currently using the Wotofo Recurve with the Faris top. Damn great vape!
